Cult Flick Review: Venus in Furs (Masimo Dallamano) - 1969

Venus in Furs
Aka: Devil in the Flesh
Director: Massimo Dallamano
1969
Erotic/Drama

To be frank I don’t really know if there’s anything more to the story than what is obvious. A man gets obsessed by this woman and claims that women in furs are the sexiest thing on the planet. The rest of the film seems to be about shooting as many scenes as possible with as little clothes on the actresses as possible. I realize that I’m being unjust to the movie with these views but I have a very difficult time finding it worth my time watching movies like these. I like naked women as much as the next guy and I am probably a bit of a pervert but when it comes to softcore sexploitation I have a hard time.

Therefore this will be a somewhat strange review. What can I write about when I don’t see the point of the movie at all? I could say that the women are lovely and sexy – which they are. I could also make comment about the atmosphere and the aesthetics which is really nice but I don’t think that the movie should be seen just for these things. Actually I think that the only reason to see it is if you’re horny enough or as a reference to the sexploitation films of 1969.

I’m going to give this a bit better grade than it deserves just because of the aesthetics. It’s something I really enjoy in European movies like this but I need something more… It gets so tedious after a while…

Sleaze Flick Review: Amateur Porn Star Killer 2 - 2008

Amatuer Porn Star Killer 2
Director: Shane Ryan
2008
Horror

I figure that if you have any interest in this movie you have already seen the first in the trilogy. I find it unnecessary to write down a synopsis in bold letter as I usually do since it’s really more of the same thing. Brandon picks up girls, fucks and kills them.

There are two version of the film on this DVD release. There is the movie version and the snuff version. They are similar of course but also quite different. The snuff version is more to the point without a lot of the stuff going on around the movie version. Personally I like the snuff version better, it’s somewhat rougher and also what the killer really intended. The victims’ pain and humiliation comes through better!

But both versions are very hard to watch, not because of the theme – which is truly a horrible one, but because of the way the story is told. Out of order and with a very shaky hand hold camera. There is lots of nudity – both male and female. It’s one of the things that the film benefits from; it makes it a little more realistic to be sure! But for the most part I’m sorry to say that it’s quite dull. I’d rather see the first film than this at any time but I’m still looking forward for the final part which I will review soon!

Review: Slaughtered Vomit Dolls - 2006

I first wrote this review during the summer of 2006 and put it up on my – then – new website. I then never got around moving it to the newer site/design and now it’s time again… I have decided to translate what I wrote back then and put it up on this blog since this is where it seems to belong best!

Slaughtered Vomit Dolls
Director: Lucifer Valentine 666
2006
Extreme

Angela Aberdeen (Amerara Lavey) is a nineteen year old bulimic and prostituted stripper. She’s on the verge of descending into a world of emotional pain of gigantic proportions. She suffers from massive nightmares and hallucinations and is made to witness endless maiming, sadistic torture and emetophilia.

I’ll have to admit that I looked up the word emetophilia in a dictionary. The meaning of the word is multiple but the common factor is sexual arousal of vomit. There are some forms in which this can manifest it self:

  1. To watch someone else vomit in front of you.
  2. To make yourself vomit.
  3. To vomit on you partner during sex.
  4. To be vomited on by your partner during sex.
  5. To force someone else to vomit.

As a viewer of the movie it’s obvious that the first example stated above is the most frequent one. There’s not anyone that will jump out of your TV-set just to vomit on you – of course you can feel free to vomit yourself during the Watch! I nearly did but not out of arousal. This is a pretty disgusting film for most of us but I needed to see it for myself.

For the characters it’s more about making themselves vomit. It seems that they just can’t get enough of it sometimes and I fail to see what the films (shallow) plot has to do with anything. The hallucinations are more of an excuse to put as much vomit in there as possible. I mean, how lame doesn’t “a bulimic strippers hallucinations” sound? There are some things worth thinking about though! I just can’t figure out if there are intentional or if I just HAVE to find some saving grace beyond all the vomiting.

But enough of that. There are other scenes than vomiting too! Lots of sadistic maiming goes on and there’s a lot of torture. All of this is very realistic and I commend these efforts. I think it may be because of the films cinematography with a camera that’s NEVER still. There is also a lot of amateur feel to it which also may contribute to the realism. It’s kind of an oxymoron, the negative aspects makes it more realistic but less aesthetic to watch.

Something that may be of interest is the contract the director apparently sign for the Devil. He promises his soul to Hell and swears to raise his children as Satan’s offspring among other things. This seems to make a lot of people angry and not only deeply Christian believers as you might think but even the regular film viewer. I wonder how regular you are as a film viewer if you watch stuff like this. My own opinion of the subject is quite clear; it’s a way to create a mystic around himself and to make himself interesting. I think this sell merely as good as sex does really. I’ve seen similarities before and that it would be a totally serious pact with Satan sound a bit too improbable!

Finally I would like to warn all of you for this film. It’s the most disturbing and disgusting film I’ve ever seen but if that’s all that you’re after just go ahead. I didn’t get the point with it; I want something more that just disgust!

Review: Necronos: Tower of Doom - 2010

Recensionen på svenska

Necronos: Tower of Doom
Director: Marc Rohnstock
2010
Horror

The Devil has plans for the earth, to conquer it and to enslave all of mankind. They can’t all be killed since the berserkers need something to eat. His mighty minion – Necronos, comes to earth to find the most precious ingredients to ensure his arrival. Necronos is accompanied by Goran – a blood Golem and a mighty witch that will assist him in identifying the most precious of all – the virgin witch. Her blood ensures the arrival of Satan and Hell will come to earth. Necronos is about to raise an army of demons and rule what’s left side by side with Satan.

First of all we need to establish that this is an independent production with a very low budget. Therefore it cannot be compare to high budget films but I don’t think Marc Rohnstock was aiming for that anyway. Usually when it comes to flicks like this the whole point is to make it very cheap and possible learn something in the process. That is why I commend productions like this; they move the boundaries of what can be done. A small budget forces the filmmakers to innovative solutions which in turn makes the industry richer. There are many high budget films that could never have been done if these productions didn’t pave the way.

Having that said it’s no big surprise that this film has the usual problem independent films have. First of all there’s the acting of course but I actually think that better than usual so I can’t complain about that. The second thing is cinematography, possible because of cheaper equipment. This is the most obvious way to tell if a film have had a shoestring budget or not.

Being a splatter film the effects are our main concern though. Those are what’s important tm us. There are two general points about this I think. It should look believable and over the top at the same time. That’s actually a pretty hard task to accomplish. Most films never come close to this, not even major Hollywood productions. The other thing is inventive use of the gore. Just to pull an arm of without any fun way of doing it isn’t good enough. There need to be a point to it. Why is the arm coming of? Just for the gore of it? Some reason that moves the plot forward? Of course I’m only talking about this as an example here but I think this film pulls it off nicely. The splatter and Gore are quite nice and most of the time there’s a point in having it there.

As it is a German movie its dialog is in German of course. I have a hard time with it. Not because of the language itself but as most of the dialog is spoken through filters to make it feel more demon-ish. It’s slightly better than watching a flick dubbed into German of course but it’s still an ugly language. Fortunately it’s subtitled into English which I understand..

The main plot isn’t very deep. But again, it doesn’t need to be. We are interested in the gore and the nudity of course. There are quite a few full frontal nudity shots and there are boobs throughout the film. I like the way this is done since it’s not only perfect bodies. There are actually real people in it as well, some saggy women and fat men, just like people are. It would be nice to see perfect porn star bodies of course but less realistic. I think it’s done in the right way!

But even if the plot isn’t very deep you get details from the beginning. You are introduced to the characters by several texts and some teaser shots. We start a few hundred years back in time with some fantastic shots. There are some really great torture scenes here. I wish they make a prequel that exploits all this in a more detailed way! Most of the film takes place in the present where the virgin witch is sought for and the torture is kind of lost in the process. I wanted to see more blood running on the women’s naked vaginas rather than intestines in a meat grinder.

Will be released by Swedish Dark Entertainment.

UPDATE:
This just in...
Troma Entertainment will distibute the film for the whole US market within the next month.

Review: Amateur Porn Star Killer - 2006

Amateur Porn Star Killer
Director: Shane Ryan
2006
Horror

Brandon looks nice and doesn’t have a problem to get the girls attention. Beneath the surface lies a secret though. Stacy, the young girl he just picked up and persuaded to accompany him to his hotel room, will soon be aware of his dark personality when he manipulates himself into her mind and she “willingly” takes her clothes of one by one for him while he films the events. She has a nervous smile on her face during the “voluntary” undressing which changes when he force himself onto her, humiliates her and rape her right before he beats her to death – all on camera!

The idea itself with a sole perpetrator that kidnap young girls just to rape, humiliate and kill them on camera might not be a new one but it’s certainly an attractive one when it comes to pseudo snuff, which is what this film is all about. I have to admit that I was expecting a stronger, more explicit tale of violence but this is really a brilliant imitation of a genre so concealed in mysteries that no one has been able to prove its existence – yet!

The quality of the picture is crap and you don’t se any naughty and/or violent details at all and I think that’s the main thing. What you get is a film that the perpetrator records and this is just about what it would look like if he has lousy equipment. Very realistic indeed! One might think that he should have concentrated on capturing more graphic details if he’s going to get something out of his own recording later but that is not the case here. There is somewhat of an explanation in the end credits about this but I’m not going to give it away here.

There’s a big problem with the sound though, it’s so bad from time to time that it’s hard to hear the dialog. This might partly be for accomplishing the same effect as for the crap picture – realism, but there’s also a problem with the soundtrack, the music drown the voices, more or less. I really like the soundtrack though; it enhances the pictures and creates an atmosphere for the movie. But at the same time it’s bad for the realism, I don’t think that a real snuff film would have had any music what so ever!

Brandon (Shane Ryan) behavior towards the young woman becomes more and more violent during the film and that’s exactly the image I have of a perpetrator of his kind in my mind. Obsequious and flattering at first so that she will give in to his perversions and then a change of personality! The camera shakes and moves all over the place and with the combination of the bad picture this successfully hides what really happens and we – the viewers, must just our imagination instead. I usually claim that this is the preferred way to tell a disturbing tale but I am not certain about it in this case. I would like to have more of the violence and sex in the frame instead of outside it. It becomes kind of tame and it’s difficult to keep interested even if the movie is just around 70 minutes.

Definitely an interesting movie worth seeing, but not the masterpiece I was hoping for.

Review: Hanger - 2009

Hanger
Director: Ryan Nicholson
2009
Horror

Eighteen years ago a boy was born. He was thrown in a garbage container and left to die. His mother was a hooker and as she got pregnant she wasn’t to any use for her pimp anymore, no one was prepared to pay to bang her. The pimp solved the matter by aborting her unborn child with a hanger. Unfortunate for her she didn’t survive the procedure – and the child? Well, somehow he manages to survive and was taken care of by a homeless bum. Now, eighteen years later, the revenge is coming…

In Gutterballs, which I wrote about a little while ago, was not spare on showing genitals. At least not male ones and here it’s no less. Perhaps this is because it’s the same man – Ryan Nicholson who has directed this. I’d say it’s fairly probable that he likes having that kind of sleaze in his movies. This movie doesn’t contain as much male genitals though, but there are a couple of scenes with female ones. If they’re real or faked with latex I can’t really say, but it look really good. And in a couple of masturbation scenes there is no doubt!

"a future cult classic"

The theme is undeniable sexual, but it didn’t have to be. There are plenty of other films with revenge themes without having visible genitals and works fine anyway. But in the same time this represents something a little bit unusual and I think it make the whole thing a bit charming. The actors are pretty weak but there is something pleasing with the weird characters. I would call many of them retarded or mentally challenged and the dialog is pretty funny. The talk about pornography and categorizes it in different categories. They work at a garbage disposal place and collect whatever appeals to them; they all have different tastes in what arouses them.

There are also a couple of pretty explicit perversions in the movie, quite nasty to be frank, and this is not even a particular disgusting film. But a couple of scenes are a bit hard to see and that says a lot when it comes from an experienced critic with a soft spot for different flicks with challenging scenes.

I’m pretty pleased with the picture really. It’s not a masterpiece but the best I’ve seen from Ryan Nicholson so far. I will be interesting to se if he can do even more shocking films in the future. I think that he’s a movie maker I will have a good relationship to, or at least his movies. I hope for the best and I think that this will be a future cult classic!

Review: The Thrill of a Kill - 2011

The Thrill of a Kill
Director: Lars-Erik Lie
2011
Horror

A young girl runs off from home. She roams the forest which is the best way for her to calm down. But not this day! She is attacked and taken to a cabin nearby where she’s molested and tortured by a serial killer maniac.

This is an ultra low budget film! They usually don’t have more plot than I’ve just described – and they don’t have to! The main thing about watching them isn’t the deep plot anyway, I’m not looking for multiple layers of storylines and I’m quite happy with what this presents in that sense. Neither is low budget flick known for masterful performances of the actors and that’s fine too!

What’s important is that the ambition to make something is there. That the crew and actors aren’t satisfied with just anything, they should want to shake the grounds a little bit. And I think this film does just that. It isn’t really inventive but the feel of it is quite raw and the serial killer maniac is a real son of a bitch! I don’t know if it’s the Norwegian language or something else but he seems so friendly yet so grim! He doesn’t seem to have any emotions at all to come in his way when it comes to tormenting the young girls he has captured.

Speaking of the language, my Norwegian is not good and I had a hard time getting the lines most of the time. But there are a lot of different accents in the film and I didn’t have problems with all of them! Strange that mother and daughter doesn’t use the same dialect but I guess that’s beside the point. Who am I to know if the daughter grew up in the same surroundings as her mother?

Let’s go to the fun parts – the gore! Because we can talk about the other stuff for hours, but what we’re really interested in is the gore right? I’m just being honest here, the main thing about a low budget horror/splatter movie is the gore and that’s the truth! It doesn’t matter how good the storyline is, the gore is always in focus! This is not the most violent film I’ve seen in the matter but I think it’s one of the more perverted and sadistic actually. There are some pretty traditional splatter scenes but most of it is more or less realistic! I have no complaints about the gore at all but I wanted it to be sleazier at times. In the very beginning of the movie eroticism is hinted and insinuated by low camera angles and later with topless shots (even if they’re from behind) but it never takes the full step into nakedness.

As it becomes a rape/revenge film of sorts the ending is the most intense part (DUH!). This is where the perpetrator is punished and gets what’s coming to him. This isn’t actually a spoiler since its pretty standard but I’m not going to tell you what’ll happen to him. But I can tell you that I sure wouldn’t want to trade places with him…

Review: Warning!!! Pedophile Released - 2009

Warning!!! Pedophile Released
Director: Shane Ryan
2009
Drama

After six years imprisonment Malaci is released from prison. The accusation is sexual molestation of the twelve year old Echo, a crime that he denies. He claims that the only thing he ever wanted was to be near her like in any other relationship. She has waited for him during his time in prison and now they can finally reunite. This seems far more difficult than they ever could comprehend when there are suddenly notes all around with his face on, warning the neighbourhood about his release. He is a released Pedophile!

This is probably one of the hardest en toughest reviews I’ve ever written. Pedophilia is such a delicate subject to deal with and even the most subtle sentence may be misinterpreted as some sort of excuse for a disgusting behaviour. But keep in mind that this is just a movie and that it creates hypothetic situations where one needs to choose sides on a philosophical level if we’re going to get somewhere. The thing is to identify your own emotions and analyse the situations in a rational way.

The point with the whole movie seems first and foremost be that it’s the sexual deviance that should be punished, not plain love. And even how immoral it may sound that’s exactly what this movie is all about, a love story! Two people want to be together, even if their difference in age, he eighteen and she twelve, makes it more or less impossible. What’s behind the accusations against him that eventually send him to jail aren’t exposed by the movie. If there’s any sexual molestation or not is something you have to figure out as a viewer yourself. But if the accusations are true I would say that the rest of the movie is about the Stockholm syndrome. How ever I doubt that this is the case even if she waits for his release so that they can be together again.

But in either case this is definitely a very provocative movie that really puts the viewer on a hard test. Is it possible to ignore you disgust for the situation itself and look for deeper meanings beyond the obvious plot? It might just be mutual love between the two? In either case the movie claims that the girl, who is twelve at the time of the accusation, loses herself in a spiral of decadence while she waits. She discovers the world in the mist brutal and ruthless way.

This is visually accomplished by rather bothersome cinematography that spins and turns more or less all the time. It’s a successful way to show her journey through life but quite disturbing to watch (which is probably the point anyway). And it’s just this voyeuristic feeling that almost the whole movie emphasises on. There’s not a whole lot of direct plot so you’ll just have to figure things out for yourself with this palette of emotions to help guide you though it.

Shane Ryan and Kai Lanette, which is also directed and/or wrote the movie plays the two biggest roles as Malachi and Echo really well! But since the film is divided into three segments and most of it is designed to visualise Echoes fate during different times she carries the biggest load along with the cinematography.

Review: The Life and Death of a Porno Gang - 2009

The Life and Death of a Porno Gang Director: Mladen Djordjevic
2009 Drama

Marko is a young filmmaker with great artistic ambitions. However, it’s not so easy to get into the film industry and his ideas are shattered by producers who see no profit in his artistic projects. He makes contact with an adult film director and after a few days, he is offered to work for him. Marko does not forget his artistic ambitions and makes a rather bizarre pornographic story. This is not appreciated by his employer. Marko gets a new idea - a political pornographic variety show in Belgrade! A brilliant idea but the police shuts down the place on the opening night. So, Marko and his gang go on the road, the countryside might be more interested in the pornographic show. It is not exactly a success but there are at least those who appreciate the show. Soon, he receives an offer. A German producer convinces him that the really big money isn’t in pornography, at least not common one. No, he should make snuff movies – where people die for real on camera.Reluctantly Marko convinces the rest of the gang to go into the snuff making industry, an industry he knows nothing about but now the question is if he ever can get out of it...

Not long ago, another Serbian movie - Srpski film , caused a fierce debate around the web. I would lie if I didn’t say that it divided people into two sections, or really three sections - those who loved it, those who hated it and the others who had an opinion whether it should be banned or boycotted by the market. The film was obviously provocative, it was debated whether the film benefited or not from this. This didn’t attract the same attention at all, although I find this far more provocative and socially critical than Srpski film.

This is more humorous that the anxiety in Sprski Film. At times it feels like a black comedy in all the misery and it’s not nearly as obvious this film has to be shocking. It doesn’t have obvious disgusting scenes, which of course makes this film a more serious reflection, where the viewer is forced to think to understand the social criticism.  I'm not saying this is not the case with Sprski film, but it is a movie that you probably will find provocative whether taken as a socio-political message or not!

"Far more provocative than Srpski Movie"

So this is a more difficult film to feel disgust when viewing. Despite the title, it does not contain much pornographic material. A few isolated clips of gay sex and that’s all there is, more or less. It’s noticeable, but made in such a way that it only seems natural that it’s there. The entire film has such a documentary feel to it and it simply feels like it should contain those clips and scenes. It doesn’t really feels like there are any actors in the movie at all, it feels as if the actors are themselves – real people – and that’s quite unusual I think!

If I were to grade this it would be very high and getting higher the closer to the end as it gets. The movie gets better and better for each minute until it reaches climax. The actual pornography story that opens the film is certainly entertaining but it is not until the more sober elements come into play that it gets really masterful. This is a politically provocative film at its best!

Review: Slaughter Disc - 2005

Slaughter Disc
Director: David Kwitmire
2005
Horror

Mike loves pornography, you could say that he’s obsessed by it. In his quest for finding the ultimate rush he finds and orders a new film. It’s, according to what he’s heard, the strongest and toughest film on the market. It’s expensive, but when he’s looking at the official website he can’t help himself. He must have a copy and orders it. A couple of weeks later there’s a knock at the door and he finally gets the very wished-for movie. On the DVD Andromeda Strange appears – pornography in the ultimate sick way.

2006-10-27

The beginning of the movie looks kind of amateurish but there’s not a shadow of a doubt that this movie is going to show everything. I’m not sure if the opening credit is over before there’s penetration on screen. Some movies balances on the edge to pornography but Slaughter Disc take it one step further – it IS pornographic!

But regardless of the content there’s no real eroticism and I think that goes along with the pretext “Porn Kills”. Because it feels kind of silly to make an anti porn film so pornographic, don’t you think? I’m not going to give away all of the slimy content in the movie but I can mention some bondage, murder and maiming, cannibalism and necrophilia as some of the perversions in the film. There’s also some emetophilia but not nearly as much as in the hyped Slaughtered Vomit Dolls.

But despite of sexual deviants, or perhaps because of them, it’s quite obvious how Mike descends into a spiral of decadence and psychosis. The pornography means everything to him and he loses his friends one by one, his girlfriend and his job. There’s only Andromeda Strange and what boundaries she’s going to shatter in the next scene of the DVD.

The cost of making Slaughter Disc was about ten thousand dollars and it took two weeks to shoot. It’s unique! I think I can guarantee that you haven’t seen anything like it before. But regardless if you hate or love it I don’t think it leaves anyone untouched. The synopsis is similar to David Cronenbergs Videodrome in some ways, and the more modern Brainscan. The grey zone of reality and imagination blurs for the characters. It treats pornography in a negative sense as well as Videodrome focused negative on society and the problems with it.

Perhaps we should be glad that the original script wasn’t filmed. It was stashed away for about a decade and was packed with ten times more gore and pornography. And we should be pleased that it's not more convincing than it is, then it was surely be illegal!

Review: Scrapbook - 2000

Scrapbook
Director: Eric Stanze
2000
Drama/Horror

Written by: Linda Snöberg
Translation: Tommy Söderberg

A woman’s shocking experiences of torture under the firm hand of a man leads into a state of mind that may never let her go. Carla (Emily Haack) is a young woman and gets kidnapped by this violent psychopath Leonard (Tommy Biondo). He has done the same thing for quite a while with other women and his modus operandi is to finally kill his victims. But from the victims point of view this is really a release from the torture and a path that’s favorable. Carla’s no different, she gets treated like everybody else: humiliated, raped and both physical and psychological abused. He forces her to write about the torture in his scrapbook. There are all kind of details from former victims there, bits of clothing, hair and a lot of pictures of mutilated bodies. Carla tries to escape multiple times, which only leads to more humiliation and torture. Finally she understands that the only way she’s going to escape alive is if she can figure out just how he’s thinking. She reads his scrapbook thoroughly to figure out his weaknesses, if he has any…

2004-11-12

Yesterday, when we were going to bed I asked my boyfriend to pick a flick to see in the bedroom but I didn’t think he could pick such a superb one! He usually picks obscure and weird films but not this time. Apparently he got struck by genius and chose this one. Great choice Tommy.

The story is told in a brilliant way with very good acting from both Tommy and Emily. In particular Emily who pays the part of the victim. She’s ill-fated for sure but her resourcefulness is second to none. She needs to use every bit of instinct to survive here degeneration to hell. It’s a refreshing, non stoppable and claustrophobic journey to the very bottom of a woman’s worst nightmare. I think it’ll take a long time before someone writes a story that even comes close to this masterpiece! It’s a cold, brutal and horrifying insight in the life of a psychopath.

During the film you can see some logic. For example a scene where Carla tries to open a door multiple times to escape. Finally she manages to open the look from the inside, but just to find that Leonard has foreseen her move and put additional locks on it.

Sure, she could have made more resistance, but after being raped multiple times, humiliated, beaten, abused, violated and psychologically torn to shreds would any of you really have the strength, energy or even the courage to stand up and keep on fighting?

A great thing is that the woman doesn’t talk at all until the last 30 minutes or so. There are some words at the very beginning but then she keeps her mouth shut. It’s a hugely impressive performance by Emily Haack. Her facial expression says much more than any words could possibly do… It’s amazingly realistic with an original touch. The initial scene where you here the woman sobbing in despair and all we see is darkness is great! It brings the strongest feelings along and awakes questions. Why is it dark? Where is she? Why is she so scared?

This is a movie that makes you think, not so much on what you THINK you should have done in a similar situation, but what you really SHOULD have done. I think I need to warn sensitive viewers for it though; it’s very brutal and does not leave you unaffected!

Review: Wound - 2010

Wound
Director: David Blyth
2010
Horror/Drama

Susan meets her father, a meeting that ends with his violent and tormented death. She submits to her masters BDSM game and she gets to see her long lost daughter. She gets possessed by her and gets bullied around by her dead mother. She goes to see a shrink for guidance. Why does she see her dead mother and her own still born child in a grown-up state?  Susan’s got a wound that never heals; an emotional wound in the soul that has driven her more or less insane. Or is she?

This is a pretty hard movie to comprehend! It may not be Tarantino-ish or Lynch-esque but the story is hard to follow. I really can’t tell in which order things happen, but it might not be important anyway. There’s a nightmarish feel to it that really gets under your skin and the actor, from Kate O´Rourke in particular, is excellent! She really gets the message out from the screen and into the audiences’ soul!

But as I said, it’s pretty hard to follow and you more or less have to feel the movie rather than thinking it. The great thing about not fully understanding is that after it’s over you can’t help thinking about it, what small things really mean. Is there a metaphoric meaning to the poo that Susan keeps in the freezer wrapped in aluminum foil or is it just there to confuse the viewer? I had to see the film several times just to get a basic idea on what it’s all about. It’s far more thought through than you first can imagine!

It’s kind of extreme but still very subtle. There isn’t as much blood as you could imagine from an extreme movie, at least not initially. There’s more towards the end but the main thing about it is more terrifying inanity than gore. That makes it a much stronger movie in my opinion and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to see and review it!

Susan is most probably insane but it’s not entirely obvious. The story could be interpreted in different ways. Maybe she truly is submissive to her BDSM master. He could be a fragment of her imagination but he could also be real – or Susan’s way of interpret the shrink. In either way she’s very fragile and she does have an emotional wound that never heals. What was her childhood like? Well, we get to know that she was sexually abused by her father; at least it seems pretty obvious. But as all other things in the movie we can’t tell for sure. Insanity is hard to comprehend and that might very well be the bottom line of the film! It’s interesting nevertheless!
